Spokane-born online retailer etailz Inc. plans to move its operations in the University District to the former Itron Inc. headquarters building in Spokane Valley, following renovations currently underway, says Mary Miller, etailz’s chief revenue and marketing officer.
Etailz has 210 employees at its 10,000-square-foot headquarters in the McKinstry Station complex, at 850 E. Spokane Falls Blvd., a space etailz has occupied for more than five years, says Miller.
“We have outgrown our space,” she says.
The company plans to move in July to a 40,000-square-foot space at 2818 N. Sullivan Road, she says.
The new office will be close to an existing etailz warehouse, which is in the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, at 3808 N. Sullivan Road.
An additional 30 employees work at that warehouse, Miller says.
Heather Bryant, project manager with SDS Realty Inc., the leasing company for the former Itron building, says S&L Sullivan LLC purchased the facility, which has a total of roughly 132,000 square feet of space, last year. Etailz will occupy a space in the east wing of the building that had once housed Spokane Valley-based business It’s a Soccer Life! Inc.
There aren’t any other tenants in that building right now, she says.
Renovations at that location will turn that space into an office area.
Miller says the campus renovations, both indoors and outdoors, also will include the addition of natural and directional lighting features; hanging hammock chairs, bean bags, couches, and plants; open work spaces; themed meeting rooms; privacy phone booths; a yoga room; a fitness area; a barbecue patio; a volleyball court; and a basketball court.
The building “will be tailored to etailz and our culture and vibe,” says Miller.
Bryant declines to disclose the cost of that remodel.
In late 2016, etailz was acquired by Albany, N.Y.-based Trans World Entertainment Corp. for $75 million. Originally called Green Cupboards, the business sold eco-friendly household goods online, and it has expanded its offerings beyond that niche through the years.
Etailz isn’t the first large operation to occupy the Sullivan Road space since Itron moved out. In 2016, Philadelphia-based Comcast Corp. operated temporarily in a 50,000-square-foot portion of the building before moving into its Liberty Lake customer call center.
Itron is currently headquartered at 2111 N. Molter Road, Liberty Lake. The publicly traded company provides products and services that measure, manage, and analyze energy and water.
Itron’s product portfolio includes electricity, gas, water, and thermal energy measurement devices and control technology; communications systems; and software, as well as managed and consulting services.
