Exchange Publishing LLC has moved to a two-story, 5,000-square-foot building at 5111 E. Trent from the 3,300-square-foot space it had occupied for two decades at 304 W. Third.
The owner and publisher of Exchange Publishing, Barbara Powers, bought the Trent Avenue property in late May, Exchange Publishing general manager Helen Boyd-Schwartz says. The company, which has 12 employees, moved at the end of June.
Boyd-Schwartz says the business has been growing, and the new building is in an area of Spokane that is more in line with Exchange Publishing’s industry. The building had been vacant for more than a year, Boyd-Schwartz says; prior to that, it was occupied by JC Wright Lighting Sales Inc.
The publishing company has issued its free weekly classified-advertising Exchange publication since 1978, as well as a quarterly horse and ranch magazine called Horse Previews. Exchange Publishing creates and publishes other publications, such as show guides, programs, and catalogs.
Exchange Publishing was founded in 1978 by Spokane veterans Aaron Spurway and Pat Powers. Spurway retired a few years ago, Boyd-Schwartz says, and Barbara Powers took over the business after her husband passed away in 2016.
This year, Exchange Publishing won first place in general excellence for North American “shopper” publications from the national Association of Free Community Papers.
Exchange Nickel Want Ads, a Spokane Valley-based weekly classified-advertising publication that Exchange Publishing owned, closed its offices in 2009.
