The former Supercuts building in the Heritage Village Shopping Center, at 9205 N. Newport Highway, will be demolished this month to make way for an automotive oil change franchise shop expanding into the Spokane area, says Dave Black, co-owner of Heritage Village LLC.
Black, who also is the CEO of Spokane-based commercial real estate brokerage NAI Black, says the 3,600-square-foot former Supercuts building will be demolished by Spokane-based Rob’s Demolition Inc. to make way for a 1,400-square-foot Take 5 Oil Change franchise location.
Jeff Gross is bringing the Take 5 Oil Change franchise to Spokane. Gross has a background in private equity and investment banking, but says he left that field years ago in pursuit of a more emotionally fulfilling career. When he discovered Take 5 Oil Change, he says he decided he liked the company’s emphasis on transparency.
Gross initially sought to establish Take 5 Oil Change locations in Texas, where he lived at the time. But the company offered him new franchise territories in either in the Reno-Tahoe region of Nevada or the Spokane area, he says.
Gross agreed to help Take 5 Oil Change establish a foothold here.
Take 5 Oil Change is a subsidiary of Charlotte, North Carolina-based Driven Brands Inc., which also is the parent company of Meineke Car Care Center, Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting, and Carstar Auto Body Repair Experts.
Headquartered in Metairie, Louisiana, Take 5 Oil Change has locations in 28 U.S. states, as well as Canada. The nearest Take 5 Oil Change location to Spokane is located more than 200 miles north, in Kelowna, British Columbia.
Gross says he has a development agreement with Take 5 Oil Change to create five locations in the Spokane market.
“Right now, I’ve got four in the works,” Gross says. “This market could do seven or eight, depending on if we get the right locations.”
The other envisioned shops involve two in Spokane Valley and another in North Spokane. He also envisions adding South Hill and Airway Heights locations.
Gross says he expects permits for the Take 5 Oil Change project in Heritage Village to be filed by mid-August. The building is being designed by Russell C. Page Architects PS, of Spokane Valley, and will be constructed by Spokane-based Yost Gallagher Construction LLC. In total, Gross says the project will cost about $950,000.
