A Spokane-based company that operates Carpet One stores here plans to open a "high-end design showroom" in a portion of the former Circuit City consumer-electronics store space near the Spokane Valley Mall.
The company, The Showroom II LLC, has leased about 7,600 square feet of retail space at 15110 E. Indiana and hopes to open the showroom there in mid-April, says Mike Dobson, who owns the company with Tim Hepper.
"My retail business is up because people are remodeling their homes and staying in them longer," Dobson says. "The time was right for us to be at the Valley Mall."
The store will be the third owned by The Showroom II. The company will continue to operate out of its original Valley location, at 1225 N. Mullan, where it has done business for 15 years. It also operates a four-year-old store on Spokane's North Side, at 9719 N. Division.
Carpet One will add four employees when the new store opens, for a total of 15 employees in addition to Dobson. He declines to disclose the company's revenues.
The store fills the remaining vacant space left when Circuit City closed its store there in early 2009. Hudson, Ohio-based retailer Jo-Ann Stores Inc. leased a portion of the old Circuit City space in late 2010 and moved a Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts store there last spring from the Opportunity Shopping Center, at 12205 E. Sprague.
Besides carpet, Carpet One sells and installs tile, hardwood flooring, granite countertops, and window shades.
Another Carpet One outlet is located in Coeur d'Alene and is owned separately.
Dan Cantu, of Cantu Commercial Properties LLC, and Carl Guenzel, of Kiemle & Hagood Co., handled the lease.
