Three commercial projects valued at a total of $14 million have been issued building permits recently by the city of Spokane Valley.

Triad Machinery is constructing a new facility for sales, rental, and services of heavy equipment at 19201 E. Garland, in Otis Orchards. Chee Tung, of Tacoma-based HHJ Architects PLLC, is listed on the permit as the project’s architect. 

Tung says Triad Machinery is building a $4 million structure and plans to move its operations there. He says the company’s lease on its current facility at 910 N. Theirman is ending. 

The contractor on the project is HHJ Inc., the design-build partner for HHJ Architects; the companies work under the same roof at their office in Tacoma. The structure will have about 31,000 square feet in total on two stories. Tung says the project is expected to be completed by September 2022.

A few miles west of there, a PODS storage facility is planned at 6636 N. Barker Road, just east of an Amazon Fulfillment Center. A building permit shows the owner is SPW-DIST LLC.

Gary Krupnick, chair of Hauppauge, New York-based The Westwood Companies Inc. and president and CEO of West Rac Contracting Corp., is listed as managing member of SPW-DIST LLC. Krupnick didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. 

Documents show the architect is Sayville, New York-based The Kent Architectural Collaborative PI, and  the contractor is The Westwood Companies Inc. The construction value of the 139,000-square-foot structure is listed at $5 million.

There are two PODS locations in the Inland Northwest currently. One is at the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, at 3808 N. Sullivan, in Spokane Valley; the other is on Airport Drive, in Hayden.

About a half-mile south of the PODS project, at 18412 E. Garland, a 67,500-square-foot warehouse structure is planned, documents filed with the city show. Jenny Nickerson, building official with the city of Spokane Valley, says the project is for Krueger Sheet Metal Co. A representative of Krueger didn’t immediately respond to request for comment. 

The building is valued at about $5 million. The contractor for the project is listed as Spokane Valley-based Divcon Inc. The architect is Ron Mackie, of Spokane Valley-based Architectural Ventures.
