T.W. Clark Construction LLC, of Spokane, began work in early August under an $11 million contract to build a new elementary school in Othello, Wash.
Steve Sunleaf, a T.W. Clark project manager, says the contractor will erect a 60,000-square-foot school there. The school will be located on a 13-acre site at 905 S. 14th in the farming community, which is about 110 miles southwest of Spokane.
The structure is expected to be completed by August 2012, in time for classes that fall. It will be wood-framed, with a masonry gymnasium. Architects West Inc., of Coeur d'Alene, designed the project.
Funds to pay for the school will come from the Othello School District's remaining capital improvement dollars from a $28.6 million bond passed by voters in 2007. Most other projects under the bond came in under budget, says Mike Currie, a district project manager, and the district also received state matching funds.
T.W. Clark is already working in Othello under a separate $7.6 million contract to remodel, modernize and expand the 47,000 square-foot Hiawatha Elementary School. That work started in September 2010 and is expected to be finished this November.
The Hiawatha Elementary School is located at 506 N. 7th, in Othello. It includes interior improvements, revamping the exterior, and upgrades to the electronic infrastructure.
Separately, in Spokane, T.W. Clark is nearly complete with sports field improvements at Rogers High School, at 1622 E. Wellesley. The contractor started work in June under a $1.5 million project to install new fencing, make irrigation upgrades, and improve athletic fields there. T.W. Clark also built new concession and storage buildings and completed sidewalk, wall, and signage upgrades.
