The Spokane Sons of Norway fraternal organization says its lodge on the North Side is for sale.
The property is listed for $850,000, says Mel Molstad, vice president of the organization.
The 10,000-square-foot, single-story lodge building, at 6710 N. Country Homes Blvd., was built in 1978, and the Spokane Sons of Norway moved there the following year from 311 W. Riverside, where it had been located since 1941.
The North Side lodge has two large multipurpose rooms, both of which have stages and dance floors, Molstad says. It also has three kitchens, a bar area, and several conference rooms, he says.
Spokane Sons of Norway has received an offer for the building from a church, which Molstad declines to discuss because it's still under negotiation. The organization has decided to sell the lodge because its membership has shrunk to about 300 from a high of about 2,000 after World War II.
"It's just a matter of membership dropping and remaining members getting old," Molstad says. "Like any other fraternal organization, we're struggling to bring young people in. We still want to work with Spokane and build up a fraternal organization that's still viable."
The organization is considering whether to look for a smaller site, Molstad says. "It's a possibility that's still in the planning stage for when and if we sell," he says.
Meantime, Spokane Sons of Norway continues to schedule events in the building.
"We're still using it every day," Molstad says. "We're still in business and booking weddings and receptions."
Steve Peterson, of Spokane-based Coldwell Banker Tomlinson, is the listing agent.
Spokane Sons of Norway, which was formed in 1907, is a chapter of the Sons of Norway international fraternal society.
