Target Corp., of Minneapolis, has launched an interior remodel of an 86,000-square-foot store in Coeur d'Alene, at 315 W. Canfield, as part of a plan to renovate 30 stores nationwide and make fresh foods available in those outlets.
Adam Tait, executive team leader for the Coeur d'Alene store, says the remodel started July 16 and is expected to be a 13-week process, with work to be completed the week of Oct. 14.
"We're very excited about this," Tait says. "We pride ourselves on high-quality products, and it's going to be very competitively priced as well."
Tait says larger cooler and freezer units are two additions being made to the back end of the store in addition to a main floor overhaul. He says the store won't be enlarged to accommodate the added inventory, but the current retail space will be reconfigured and most of the store will see improvements.
A building permit issued June 5 by the city of Coeur d'Alene lists the renovation value at $750,000 and says a new heat pump and air-conditioning unit will be installed as part of the interior remodel. The permit lists the architect for the project as Portland-based MulvannyG2 Architecture. The contractor is listed as Skanska USA Building, of Seattle.
A press release issued by Target says the Coeur d'Alene store is in the last of three rounds of remodels for the year. Nearly 1,100 Target locations already have been remodeled to accommodate fresh-food products, the release says.
Target Corp. finished a similar remodel earlier this year in a store it operates at the Northpointe Plaza shopping center, at 9770 N Newport Highway in North Spokane.
Plans on file with the city say the total value for the remodel at the Northpointe location was about $900,000. The store also received back room upgrades similar to those expected at the Coeur d'Alene location.
The Target store in Coeur d'Alene first opened in the early 1990s.
