Longtime Spokane company Scafco Grain Systems Co. has been acquired by Sioux Steel Co., of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Scafco Grain Systems, which designs and manufactures grain storage bins, silos, handling equipment, and drying technology, has operated in Spokane for 60 years and has an international market reach, with installations in more than 80 countries.

Larry Stone, president of Spokane-based Stone Group of Companies, says in a press release, “The Sioux Steel Company is an excellent manufacturer with over 100 years of experience.”

Sioux Steel, which is a fourth-generation, family-owned company, plans to retain all of Scafco Grain Systems’ employees and to keep its operations in Spokane, Stone says in the release.

“Sioux Steel Company is sure to succeed while taking grain bins to new markets and storing new products with the assistance of the highly skilled team of Scafco Grain Systems Company’s employees,” Stone says.

A Stone Group spokesman declined further comment. The terms of the sale, which was completed on March 1, weren’t disclosed in the release.

Scafco Grain Systems is located at 5400 E. Broadway, where it occupies 110,300 square feet of office, manufacturing, and warehouse space.

The company is the only subsidiary of the Stone Group of Companies involved in the sale.

The Stone Group of Companies has nearly 400 total employees in its subsidiaries, with businesses in Washington, Idaho, and five other states. Remaining Stone Group subsidiaries include Scafco Steel Stud Co., Steel Construction Systems, CWallA Building Materials Co., Kern Building Materials, LB Stone Properties Group, and Playfair Commerce Park.
