The Spokane Public Facilities District announced this morning that its board of directors will consider at its Aug. 13 meeting approving an agreement for development of a nationally branded, high-rise convention hotel near the Spokane Convention Center in downtown Spokane.
Developers and hoteliers Walt and Karen Worthy, who formed Convention Center Hotel LLC for the project, already have signed the joint development agreement that would allow the project to move ahead, the PFD said in a press release. The Worthys also own the Davenport Hotel Collection downtown.
To be located on a full city block across Spokane Falls Boulevard from the INB Performing Arts Center, the proposed project would include development of a 721-room hotel with 70,000 square feet of meeting space--including a 20,000-square-foot ballroom space--and a 900-space parking garage.
Surface parking currently is located on the 120,000-square-foot site, and as part of the agreement, the PFD is guaranteed 300 public parking slots for patrons visiting the performing arts center or the convention center.
The PFD plans to connect the hotel and convention center with a skywalk bridge that would span Spokane Falls Boulevard.
The district's CEO, Kevin Twohig, said, "We know that a nationally branded hotel such as the one the Worthy group is set to build means Spokane will be able to compete with larger cities, which will benefit the entire region."
