Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a business connections breakfast on Friday, Aug. 16, at 6:30 a.m., at Mirabeau Park Hotel & Convention Center, 1100 N. Sullivan. The program will be Marijuana: Budding Business or Bad Idea? Mike Ormsby, U.S. attorney for Eastern Washington, will lead the discussion. The Washington Policy Center, a think tank promoting sound public policy based on free-market solutions, will hold its 2013 Annual Dinner on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. The Spokane speaker will be S.E. Cupp, columnist at the New York Daily News and a contributing editor at Townhall Magazine. The statewide speakers will be presented via webcast. They are Dr. Ben Carson, pediatric neurosurgeon and opinion columnist for the Washington Times; and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. The cost is $100 for dinner and public reception. Greater Spokane Incorporated will hold Good Morning Greater Spokane: Washington Health Benefit Exchange on Friday, Sept. 6, from 7 to 9 a.m., at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place, in Spokane Valley. The cost is $25 for members and $55 for others until Sept. 4, and $30 for members and $55 for others thereafter. GSI also will hold its 2013 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. The Idaho Housing and Finance Association will hold a free workshop for landlords on Monday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m. at its branch office, 915 W. Canfield, in Coeur d'Alene. Lt. Fred Swanson of the Idaho State Police will discuss how to identify drug-related activities and steps landlords can take if they suspect residents are engaged in illegal behavior.
