The city of Spokane Valley has issued a building permit for Scafco Grain Systems to construct a $3 million building addition at its facility at 5400 E. Broadway.
The project includes constructing a two-story, 5,300-square-foot office addition and 34,000 square feet of warehouse space, building permit information on file at the city of Spokane Valley shows.
Garco Construction Inc., of Spokane, is listed on the permit application as the contractor on the project. A Garco spokesman referred inquiries to a Scafco executive, who couldn't be reached for comment.
Scafco Grain Systems designs and manufactures grain storage bins and silos. The company currently occupies 66,000 square feet of floor space on 6.3 acres of land. Its manufacturing facility there was constructed in 2004.
Scafco Grain Systems is a subsidiary of Scafco Corp, which also operates Scafco Steel Stud Manufacturing Co., located at 6200 E. Main. Together, the companies employ about 250 people, according to information Scafco Corp. supplied for a Leading Spokane Manufacturers list published in the Journal's May 23 issue.
Separate from the Scafco Grain Systems project, Scafco Corp. is developing two buildings at 2802 E. Main, the site of the former Playfair horse track, where the company plans to move its steel stud plant.
Lawrence B. Stone PPTY Construction LLC is the contractor on the $9 million, 138,200-square-foot stud plant project, and Spokane-based NAC|Architecture designed it.
Stone, who is president of Scafco Corp., bought most of the former Playfair property in 2004, and the stud plant structures going up there will be the first buildings in Stone's envisioned Playfair Commerce Park.
Scafco Steel Stud Manufacturing Co. currently is located in a 63,000-square-foot facility at 6200 E. Main.
