Spokane-based J.W. Elmer Construction Co. recently began renovating a 5,600-square-foot commercial space on the South Hill, where AAA of Spokane plans to relocate its downtown office.
The travel membership organization will be leasing the building at 1314 S. Grand, which previously was occupied by Savory Restaurant & Lounge. The city of Spokane building records show a $225,000 project value for the renovation work there.
Jennifer Cook, a Bellevue, Wash.-based AAA spokeswoman, says the downtown Spokane AAA property at 1717 W. Fourth will remain open until the new office is finished, which is expected by late spring. That downtown AAA space, which includes two buildings on 2.2 acres, is listed for sale at $2.7 million. Jim Quigley, of Kiemle & Hagood Co., is the listing agent for the property.
“The primary reason AAA is moving to Grand Boulevard is to be closer to the majority of our area members and give them easier, more convenient access to our services,” she says.
Cook says AAA currently is using all of the space in the buildings downtown, which include one with 22,000 square feet and another with 6,700 square feet, as well as two detached garages that total 2,700 square feet.
She says 20 people work in the downtown space, and all of them will move to the South Hill office.
In the Spokane area, AAA operates two additional offices that will remain open. They are located at 13817 E. Sprague, in Spokane Valley, and at 7307 N. Division, in North Spokane. It also operates an office in Coeur d’Alene, at 296 W. Sunset Ave.
Cook says Seattle-based 5ive Creative is the designer for AAA’s new office space.
Founded in 1902 and headquartered in Heathrow, Fla., AAA says it is a motoring and leisure travel organization serving 53 million members in the U.S. and Canada. AAA provides its members a range of travel, insurance, financial, and automotive-related services.
