Four Spokane-area credit unions are among the 20 largest in Washington state in terms of total assets, according to a top 25 credit unions list that the Puget Sound Business Journal published earlier this month.
Two of the organizations here, Spokane Teachers Credit Union and Numerica Credit Union, ranked in the top five statewide.
Based in Liberty Lake, STCU ranked as the third largest with about $1.77 billion in assets as of last June 30. The credit unions that finished ahead of STCU—BECU, with $11.5 billion in assets, and Washington State Employees Credit Union, with $1.87 billion in assets—are headquartered in Tukwila and Olympia, respectively.
Numerica Credit Union, based in Spokane Valley, finished fifth with $1.26 billion in total assets as of last June 30.
Horizon Credit Union, also based in Spokane Valley, ranked 16th with about $532 million in total assets. Although Horizon was behind STCU and Numerica in terms of assets, its total number of branches ranked ahead of STCU and equaled Numerica. At 18 locations each, Horizon and Numerica tied with Harborstone Credit Union, of Tacoma, for fourth most branches statewide.
Global Credit Union, which is based near downtown Spokane, ranked 20th with $357 million in assets.
The Puget Sound Business Journal published the list in its Jan. 10 issue and cited as the information sources the National Credit Union Administration and the Washington state Department of Financial Institutions.
