Harris Athletics Corp., which operates Spokane gymnastics and cheer academy Dynamic Gymnastics & Cheer, is developing a new $1.8 million facility in the Hillyard area, and plans to relocate there from a smaller space on north Division Street, says owner Adana Harris.
Ground work has begun at the Hillyard site, located at 5512 N. Havana, Harris says, and the building is slated to be completed this fall.
The building is expected to have about 30,000 square feet of floor space, Harris says, with 20,000 of that being for a gymnastics gym. It will have a mezzanine level, two spring floors and a trampoline for tumbling, a warm-up floor, three dance and cheer studios, and a workout facility.
Harris designed the building herself, she says, with some help from Solid Structures LLC, of Spokane, which is providing general contracting and engineering services for the project.
“We outgrew our facility about three years ago,” Harris says of the academy’s current space at 7410 N. Division. “We used to have a dance studio that shared space with us; we’ll be adding dance back in when we move to the next location.”
Dynamic Gymnastics offers gymnastics, cheer, and fitness classes for both children and adults.
The academy has been operating here for about 25 years. Harris says she worked at the business for about 10 years before purchasing it 11 years ago.
Harris estimates Dynamic currently has about 600 students. It employs 23 people, but that number is expected to grow to 35 once the new building is completed, Harris.
