An affiliate of Sycamore Partners, a New York-based private-equity firm that owns Aeropostale, Hot Topic, Talbots, and a number of other retail chains, announced that it has acquired the Coldwater Creek brand and related intellectual property. It didn't disclose the dollar value of the transaction.
Sycamore said in a press release that it intends to relaunch Coldwater Creek, which was headquartered in Sandpoint, Idaho, as an independent company and said additional details about the relaunch will be provided later.
The Sycamore affiliate, CWC Direct LLC, bought the assets as part of Coldwater Creek’s ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The Sandpoint company, which had 6,600 employees and 330 stores as of last fall, filed for bankruptcy protection on April 11 and disclosed plans to liquidate its inventory in early May.
Peter Morrow, a managing director of Sycamore Partners, said in the release, “Coldwater Creek is an outstanding brand with a 30-year heritage and strong support from its loyal base of longtime customers. We are excited about adding Coldwater Creek to our growing portfolio … and look forward to reintroducing the brand to the marketplace.”
Sycamore Partners reports having $3.5 billion in assets under management.
