Vertical Options LLC, of Spokane, a growing elevator service and repair company, recently landed a $1 million job at the Energy Northwest Columbia Generating Station, in Richland, Wash., says Keely Friesen, the company’s CEO.
Vertical Options will replace three elevators at the nuclear facility over the next three summers.
The job has some challenges as the elevators are near the reactor, Friesen says, adding that the project is being scrutinized closely by engineers to ensure the work has no impact on the facility.
Energy Northwest claims the Columbia Generating Station produces the equivalent of 10 percent of the electrical energy generated in Washington state.
Friesen manages the financial side of Vertical Options and is majority owner of the company. She founded the company in 2011 with her husband Wade, a longtime mechanic with three prior years of experience servicing elevators with another company.
Vertical Options, which has seen strong growth, currently has seven employees and plans to hire another employee next month, she says.
In August, Vertical Options will modernize the elevators at Lilac Plaza on Spokane’s North Side as part of a $10 million renovation project at the 13-story senior-housing facility, Friesen says.
Recent Vertical Options projects downtown included installing a new modular elevator at Dania Furniture, and modernizing both elevators in the Hutton Building.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also has awarded Vertical Options a service contract for nine elevators at dams in Pomeroy, Wash., and Orofino, Idaho.
