Acme Concrete Paving Inc., of Spokane, is the apparent low bidder on an about $7.8 million second phase of a taxiway reconfiguration project at the Spokane International Airport, and expects to be awarded the job, says Robert Seghetti, president of Acme.
Separately, Acme has won a contract with the Idaho Transportation Department for a $28.8 million resurfacing project, Seghetti says. That project will involve reconstructing almost six miles of Interstate 90 from the interchange at Mullan to the Idaho-Montana border.
Of the taxiway reconfiguration project, Seghetti says, “The project is bid, but they have 120 days to award pending some (Federal Aviation Administration) funding,” Seghetti says. He says work on the taxiways is projected to begin next April and to be completed in July 2015.
The project will involve realigning two taxiways at the airport and completely reconstructing a third.
“There’s a little bit of electrical involved, and demolition of the existing pavement, and placement of new concrete pavement,” Seghetti says.
The design for the project was a joint venture between Portland-based Century West Engineering Corp., which operates a Spokane Valley office, and Taylor Engineering Inc., of Spokane. Century West also provided engineering services on the first phase of the project, which resumed construction in April and was awarded to William Winkler Co., of Newman Lake.
That phase has involved reconfiguring existing taxiways and adding some high-speed taxiways.
Of the I-90 resurfacing project, Seghetti says, “It involves removal of the existing concrete pavement, placed back in 1977, and replacement with a new concrete pavement section. It’ll also have some safety upgrades and a new concrete barrier.”
The barrier is being constructed by Frank Gurney Inc., of Spokane Valley, Seghetti says. The Idaho Transportation Department provided the engineering services on the project, he says.
