T.W. Clark Construction LLC, of Spokane, has begun work on a $6.6 million project that will replace the 89-year-old Winton Elementary School, in Coeur d’Alene.
The school is located at 920 W. Lacrosse, about a mile northwest of downtown Coeur d’Alene.
The project will include tearing down the current 35,000-square-foot school structure and replacing it with a 55,000-square-foot structure that will have six additional classrooms, says Cory Trapp, a principal at Longwell+Trapp Architects PLLC, of Coeur d’Alene, which designed the project.
The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 1, 2015.
For the 2014-2015 school year, classes for Winton students will be held at the former Hayden Elementary School, at 9650 N. Government Way, five miles north of Winton.
With six additional classrooms, the school will accommodate up to 475 students when it reopens, up from its previous capacity of 325 students, the Coeur d’Alene School District website says.
The project is the last of five major school construction projects funded through a $32.7 million bond measure that district voters approved in August 2012.
Longwell+Trapp designed two other bond-funded projects, which are nearing completion.
Ginno Construction Co., of Coeur d’Alene, is scheduled to complete the $4.9 million Bryan Elementary renovation and expansion project at 802 Harrison next month. Contractors Northwest Inc., of Coeur d’Alene, is expected to complete the $4 million Borah Elementary School modernization and expansion project, at 632 N. Borah, in the fall.
Two other bond-funded school renovations were completed earlier. The bond measure also funded heating-and-cooling system upgrades at five other schools, and a number of smaller projects throughout the district.
The Coeur d’Alene School District operates 17 schools and serves more than 10,000 students.
