Buffalo Wild Wings, a national chicken-wing restaurant and sports bar chain, plans to open its third Spokane-area outlet in the NorthTown Mall, predevelopment documents on file with the city of Spokane show.
The restaurant would face Queen Avenue, on the north side of the mall just west of the Kohl’s department store, early site plans show.
Jon Gotreau, regional marketing manager for Minneapolis-based Buffalo Wild Wings Inc., declines to comment specifically on the site or the anticipated timeline for the project.
“We are looking at real estate in the area,” Gotreau says. “Without anything approved through the city or on our books, we can’t anticipate exactly when it will happen.”
Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants typically have 100 employees, he says.
The city’s predevelopment notes say the applicant expects to submit plans for the project in December.
“Hopefully by the end of the year, we’ll have an idea of what to expect for 2015,” Gotreau says.
While the predevelopment application doesn’t list the construction cost for the proposed project, notes submitted with the application inquire about permit fees for a $1.4 million project.
Design & Engineering Inc., of Brentwood, Tenn., submitted the predevelopment application. No contractor has been selected for the proposed project.
The restaurant would have roughly 5,000 square feet of floor space plus outdoor patio space, an early site plan shows. A similarly sized Buffalo Wild Wings outlet opened last month in Coeur d’Alene, at 405 W. Neider.
Predevelopment notes say the restaurant construction would coincide with the $8.5 million NorthTown Mall redevelopment project that Chicago-based mall owner General Growth Properties Inc. announced last year.
That project, now under way, includes demolishing 120,000 square feet of retail space facing Queen Avenue between the Kohl’s and Macy’s department stores and constructing 63,000 square feet of space for new shops, restaurants, a new main entrance, and an enclosed loading dock.
Bayley Construction, of Mercer Island, Wash., is the contractor on the mall redevelopment project, and Bernardo|Wills Architects PC, of Spokane, designed it.
The first Spokane-area Buffalo Wild Wings outlet opened last year near the Spokane Valley Mall, at 14702 E. Indiana.
Buffalo Wild Wings, which was founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1982, has grown to more than 1,000 restaurants throughout North America.
