Spokane-based Red Lion Hotels Corp. has signed franchise agreements with the owner of two hotels, one in Spokane and another in Sacramento, Calif.
The Spokane property is the former Spokane House Hotel, located at 4301 W. Sunset Blvd., says Pam Scott, RLHC spokeswoman.
That hotel, which currently is closed, will undergo a multimillion-dollar renovation and reopen in late June as Red Lion Inn & Suites Spokane, Scott says.
The improvements will include new guest-room furnishings, new bedding, and technology updates, Scott says, adding, “All common areas also will be remodeled.”
The hotel will offer guests complimentary breakfast, an outdoor pool, Wi-Fi, free parking, a fitness center, and a business center, she says.
Pintu Bath, of Olympia, owns the hotel, which is located at the southeast corner of Sunset Boulevard and Rustle Road atop the Sunset Hill in west Spokane and is known for its view overlooking downtown.
Bath also owns the Sacramento property and is a member of an ownership group that last year converted an independent hotel in Renton, Wash., into the Red Lion Hotel & Conference Center/Seattle Renton.
“The RLHC team and brand has proven itself with the conversion of our property,” Bath says in a press release announcing the Spokane and Sacramento franchise agreements.
The five-story, 89-guest room Spokane hotel was established in the early 1950s as the Desert Caravan Inn.
In recent years, it also had been affiliated with the America’s Best Value Inn and Quality Inn hotel chains. Most recently, it operated as an independent hotel, Scott says.
The future Red Lion Inn & Suites-Sacramento Midtown, which also is expected to reopen in June following the conversion of the 82-room facility to the RLHC brand, is located east of downtown Sacramento, just north of Interstate 305 and east of Interstate 80.
RLHC primarily is engaged in franchising, management, and ownership of midscale and upscale hotels and has nearly 60 hotels under its brands systemwide.
The company completed 15 franchise agreements in 2014 and is transitioning from a full-asset ownership model to a group of hospitality brands focused on franchising and joint ventures.
