The Washington Multi-Family Housing Association says members of its Eastern Washington chapter recently helped the Rebuilding Together Spokane organization renovate the home of a low-income homeowner that was in dire need of repairs.
It says the project, taking place at a home in the North Foothills area on Spokane’s North Side, originally was to involve replacing gutters, fixing a structurally failing staircase, replacing a bathroom vanity, and installing safety grab bars for the homeowner, but volunteers were able to complete a number of other tasks as well.
Other improvements included replacing flooring in a bathroom and laundry room, front and back yard cleanup, fresh front porch paint, and removal of a burned out tub and recyclable items.
Industry suppliers that donated time, materials, or labor to the effort included Alliance Flooring, Perrenoud Roofing Inc., The Grounds Guys, GreenSpace Recycling, and Sherwin Williams. Organizers particularly applauded Alliance Flooring, saying what had been expected to be two to three hours of flooring work for that company turned into a nine-hour project.
They also credited Prodigy Property Management, FPI Management, Greystar, and NAI Black and their employees who collectively donated more than 70 hours of skilled labor to complete numerous maintenance and repair projects.
Organizers said the project was deemed a success, and added that the multifamily housing association and the Rebuilding Together nonprofit organization will partner again, in Spokane, Seattle, and other areas of the state where the association and its members can benefit their local communities.
Rebuilding Together Spokane is part of the national Rebuilding Together organization, which provides free home repairs for low-income, elderly, and disabled residents, and nonprofit facilities, and has 166 affiliates across the country.
The Washington Multi-Family Housing Association is the state chapter of the National Apartment Association.
It describes itself as a collection of more than 85 property management companies, 850 apartment communities representing more than 145,000 apartment homes, and more than 180 service suppliers. The organization’s Eastern Washington chapter serves the Spokane and Tri-Cities markets.
