After sustained marketing efforts to garner market share overseas, Flexhibits, the Spokane-based company that designs and makes modular interchangeable wall systems for museums and science discovery centers, has recently signed contracts with companies as far away as Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, says Josh Quisenberry, the company’s operations manager.
Flexhibits will be installing its wall systems in Petrosains, an interactive science museum in the city of Kuala Lumpur, as well as in robotics labs in Saudi Arabia.
Kuala Lumpur is the capital and most populous city in Malaysia. It is located just east of North Sumatra, Indonesia, and approximately 220 miles north of Singapore.
Separately, the company recently completed designs for a robotics lab for a company in Saudi Arabia, although Quisenberry declines to disclose specifics about the client.
“We just finished designs and are putting together prices for the company’s engineering, mathematics, and chemistry labs and in all, we will provide systems for about 120 labs,” he says.
Quisenberry says Flexhibits also has supplied systems for discovery centers and children’s museums in Colorado, Illinois, and Indiana recently.
Company representatives will attend conferences in Italy and Montreal over the summer to promote Flexhibits, he adds.
Quisenberry says Flexhibits also has won a $3,500 grant from Export Washington, the Washington state Department of Commerce’s export voucher program. The program is funded in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s state trade and export promotion grant, which offers funding to companies new to exporting or to those expanding into new export markets.
Flexhibits, formerly IQ Interactive, changed its name in March to reflect better a focus on its interchangeable displays. It’s located at 211 W. Second, where the company has about 10 full-time employees.
Quisenberry says the cost of custom-designed exhibit materials are prohibitive for some businesses.
“We offer and sell the first-of-its-kind permanent, prepackaged wall systems, which can be updated by ordering a small interchangeable component from Flexhibits,” says Quisenberry. “Nobody has what we have in terms of something you can update. You can interchange your exhibit with fresh, new content.”
The cost of Flexhibits products are considerably less as well, he asserts. “Just being able to ship a small component with the interactive portion cuts down on logistics of transportation, and saves us and our clients’ money as well,” he adds.
Flexhibits exhibit packages start at about $41,000 plus installation. Flexhibit’s products were initially created after some of the company’s best-selling exhibits were identified and packages were created.
