A major expansion project is under way at the FedEx Ground distribution center in Spokane Valley.
J.W. Elmer Construction Co., of Spokane, is the contractor on the project, which includes an addition with 46,600 square feet of warehouse space and 1,000 square feet of office space, says Rob Elmer, owner of the construction company.
Elmer declines to disclose the terms of the construction contract, although building permit information on file with the city of Spokane Valley lists the project value at $3.5 million.
The distribution center is located at 4005 N. Moore Lane, abutting the north edge of the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, which is at 3808 N. Sullivan Road.
The project is scheduled to be completed in late September.
The expansion is a design-build project in which J.W. Elmer Construction is working with Architectural Ventures, of Spokane Valley, to erect the addition. The steel structure was pre-engineered by Kansas City, Mo.-based Butler Manufacturing, Elmer says.
The distribution center currently has more than 75,000 square feet of floor space, and when the addition is complete, the center will have a total of 122,600 square feet of space, he says.
Elmer says J. W. Elmer Construction erected a 20,000-square-foot addition at the distribution center in 2010. He says the construction company also erected a 37,000-square-foot distribution center for FedEx Ground in Lewiston in 2012.
FedEx Ground is a subsidiary of Memphis-based FedEx Corp., a global delivery services company.
