Construction is under way on a $3.1 million expansion project at River City Middle School, in Post Falls, says Scott Fischer, the project architect with the Coeur d’Alene design firm Architects West Inc.
River City Middle School is located at 1505 N. Fir, in west Post Falls.
Contractors Northwest Inc., also of Coeur d’Alene, is the contractor on the project.
The project includes a kitchen expansion, as well as a second addition with 12 classrooms totaling 19,000 square feet of new space, Fischer says.
The project is scheduled to be completed in September, in time for the 2015-2016 school year, he says.
River City Middle School currently has 550 students enrolled in sixth through eighth grades.
The expansion project is the first of five projects to be funded under a $19.5 million bond measure approved by Post Falls School District voters in March.
Architects West also is designing a new $10 million elementary school that will be funded under the bond measure, Fischer says. The 49,700-square-foot school will have a capacity of 500 students. It will be located at the northwest corner of Greensferry Road and Bunting Lane in northeast Post Falls.
That project will go out for contractor bids in August and is scheduled to be completed by fall 2016, he says.
Other projects to be funded under the bond measure include separate auditorium and gym additions at Post Falls High School, in north Post Falls, and a two-classroom addition at West Ridge Elementary School, in west Post Falls, Fischer says.
