Coeur d’Alene-based Peak Health & Wellness Center, which also brands itself as The Peak, is remodeling and expanding its year-old indoor tennis center in Hayden and plans to relocate a fitness center there from the nearby Prairie Shopping Center when that $2.6 million project is completed.
“Basically, we’re moving the two into one building,” says manager and part owner Gary Retter. He says the project will include adding a second story to the tennis center, which is located at the northwest corner of Centa Avenue and Government Way.
“When we constructed the indoor tennis center, we were already kind of planning for a second story, which made this construction that much easier,” says Retter. The facility’s indoor tennis center was constructed in a $4.2 million project that began in the summer of 2013.
Retter says the remodel will involve improvements to approximately 45,000 square feet of space, and will include removing one tennis court and building a group fitness room and a group cycling room, as well as multipurpose areas for pickleball, basketball and group training.
A downstairs child care area also is being expanded to include both indoor and outdoor play areas for children. The second-story addition will account for 15,000 square feet and will include a hot yoga room, cardio deck, weight room, and turf training area.
Retter says that with the added space, the facility expects an increase in tennis traffic and membership at the location. “We expect as a result of the new additions, both those components will grow,” says Retter.
The contractor for the project is Innovative Construction & Design LLC, of Liberty Lake. The architect on the project is Miller Stauffer Architects PA, of Coeur d’Alene.
The Peak also operates its original outlet in Coeur d’Alene and another in Post Falls. When construction began on the Hayden facility’s tennis center in 2013, The Peak told the Journal it had a combined total of 100 employees.
The 17-year-old Hayden facility and the 12-year-old Post Falls center originally operated under the World Gym name. All facilities were renamed Peak Health & Fitness Center six years ago.
