Meridian Construction Inc., of Spokane Valley, is working on two sizable Central Washington projects valued at a total of $6.4 million, says Kathryn Johnson, Meridian’s contract administrator.
One project is a $3.2 million fire station for the city of Kennewick. The other project, also valued at $3.2 million, is an expansion at the Yakima Valley Community College operations complex, Johnson says.
Kennewick’s Fire Station No. 5, which will be the first new station to be built in the city in 20 years, will be located in the western part of the city, which is about 140 miles southwest of Spokane. It will have four bays for fire trucks, office space, crew living quarters, and support facilities, Johnson says.
TCA Architecture Planning Inc., of Seattle, designed the fire station project, which is expected to be completed next July, she says.
The Yakima project, on the Yakima Valley Community College campus about 200 miles southwest of Spokane, involves constructing two structures. One will be a 10,700-square-foot maintenance building that will accommodate security, printing, and support services, Johnson says. The other structure will be a 13,100-square-foot shop and warehouse building, she says.
BORArchitecture PLLC, of Yakima, designed the project, which is scheduled to be completed by February.
Meridian, which specializes in health care, office, retail, industrial, and casino projects, employs 20 people in the field and at its offices at 12730 E. Mirabeau Parkway, Johnson says.
