Spokane-based Horizon Credit Union plans to merge into its operations the smaller Amicus Federal Credit Union, also of Spokane.
Boards for the two credit unions approved the merger earlier this month, with both voting unanimously in favor of combining. The organizations will seek regulatory approval and expect their respective members to vote on the proposal this spring.
If the merger is approved, the combined credit union will have total assets approaching $830 million and employ about 250 people.
Wendy Gillies, president and CEO of Amicus Credit Union, which at one time was the Spokane Catholic Credit Union, said in a press release, “The decision to merge with Horizon will benefit our members by providing them the services that we were not able to provide due to our size and the cost of those technologies.”
Horizon CEO Jeff Adams says in the release that in addition to providing Amicus members with better online and mobile banking tools, “we also will expand their access to mortgage and consumer lending products.”
Horizon has 22 branches in Washington, Idaho, and Montana, including nine locations in the Spokane area.
Amicus currently operates one branch, at 6103 N. Astor on Spokane’s North Side, but that branch is expected to close upon completion of the merger. Horizon operates two branches near the Amicus location—one just over a mile away at 1211 W. Francis and the other just under three miles away, at 9861 N. Nevada.
