Stay Alfred, the nationwide urban vacation rental firm based here, reports it has more than doubled its portfolio of properties.
Having begun 2015 with 110 vacation rentals available in six U.S. cities, the company reported in a press release last month that it ended the year with 277 urban properties in 11 destinations.
Stay Alfred focuses on urban vacation and corporate rentals in the downtown areas of cities such as Seattle, Denver, and Boston. It also rents out properties, mostly condominiums, in several other major cities.
Last year, Stay Alfred opened new guest accommodations in historic or downtown neighborhoods in San Antonio, San Diego, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
Company founder and President Jordan Allen says he is pleased with the company’s accomplishments last year and looks forward to continued success in 2016.
“Every year since we started, we’ve doubled our inventory,” he says. “We’re on track to double again this year.”
According to Allen, the company’s revenues for 2015 totaled $13.5 million, and it is on track to reach a goal of $30 million by the end of 2016. He says the company’s focus this year is on improved technology and organization.
“We’re big compared to most companies in the industry, managing close to 300 units,” he says. “We hope to have almost 500 units by the end of this year, so we’re in the process of developing better software to track that larger inventory and stay organized.”
Allen says the company has two developers working on the new software program now and hopes to have five by the end of the year.
“We’d like to see this program work in conjunction with things like guest communications as well,” he says.
Allen says the company hopes to add rental units in four or five additional cities, and is considering Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta as possible location choices.
“The travel industry has really been opening up the last few years,” says Allen. “More and more people are starting to think of other options besides hotels for travel accommodations.”
Stay Alfred rentals include kitchens, fitness centers, and free Wi-Fi and cable. The company accepts guest reservations 24 hours a day by phone or online, with virtual tours also available. Room prices are said to be similar to those of an upscale hotel, with most being in the $200- to $500-a-night range.
“It’s really hard to give an average cost, as each city is different depending on the season, attractions, or events it’s known for,” Allen says.
Although the majority of Stay Alfred’s customers are families on vacation, Allen says the company would like to expand its offerings to include more options for business travelers.
“I’ve heard 80 percent of all travel is business travel,” he says. “Right now, I would say we’re seeing about 20 percent of our customers’ travel is business related, so I’d like to see us find ways to tap into a larger portion of that market.”
In addition to the previously mentioned cities, the company currently offers rentals in Memphis, Tenn.; Nashville, Tenn.; New Orleans, La.; and Portland, Ore.
Stay Alfred currently employs 60 people, 52 of whom work in its headquarters at 123 E. Sprague.
