The Spokane chapter of the American Institute of Architecture has presented Spokane-based Integrus Architecture PS with an honor award—the chapter’s most prestigious—for its design work on the Wenatchee Valley College Music & Arts Center as part of the 2016 AIA Spokane Design Awards.
The organization presented the awards at a banquet last month, held at the Spokane Club.
Integrus won the honor award in the category of built projects exceeding $5 million.
WVC’s music and arts center cost approximately $7 million to build. Additionally, Integrus received a citation award for its design work of the Pyrotek Corporate Building remodel at 705 W. First in downtown Spokane.
The Spokane AIA holds a biannual awards program to encourage “excellence in all types and areas of architecture,” says the Spokane AIA website.
Member firms and architects submitted contest entries of work completed between March 31, 2010, and March 31, 2016.
Katherine Mitchell, executive director of Spokane AIA, says the time frame for submissions for the latest contest cycle was extended, due to the fact many member firms were still emerging from the recession and didn’t have enough contest entrants to submit for judging in 2014. Consequently, Spokane AIA didn’t have an awards contest that year, she says.
“There’s definitely been a turnaround in the economy and we’re looking forward to getting back on our regular contest schedule with the next one to be held in 2018,” she says.
For the most recent contest, firms submitted a total of 27 projects for award consideration, says Spokane AIA.
In addition to capturing the honor award, Integrus also received a craftsmanship award for a building renovation and dining addition at Whitworth University’s Hixson Union Building.
Other winners included NAC Architecture, which received a merit award for its design work of the Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center, in Moses Lake, which was completed in June 2014. The firm also received a citation award for its design of Whitworth’s Recreation Center, completed in August 2013.
Uptic Studios Inc., of Spokane, received a merit award for design work on a private residence on the South Hill in the category of built projects costing less than $5 million.
