Spokane Valley-based BumbleBar Inc. says it has moved to a larger manufacturing facility to accommodate its rapid growth.
The gluten-free snack bar maker has moved into 36,000 square feet of space in the Flora Industrial Center, at 3014 N. Flora Road. It previously was located in 12,000 square feet of space in the nearby Spokane Business & Industrial Park, at 3808 N. Sullivan.
The company has gluten-free, non-GMO, organic and kosher certifications, says Liz Ward, BumbleBar’s founder and co-owner. Ward runs the company with her husband, Glenn Ward. The company has a workforce of 20, including its owners, she says.
Ward declines to reveal revenues, but says BumbleBar has experienced as much as 100 percent annual growth in recent years. BumbleBar’s workforce remains consistent despite the high double-digit and triple-digit growth.
“Our employee census has varied through the years,” says Ward, adding that BumbleBar’s current employee roster is not the highest it’s ever been. “We’re now able to automate more of our production line.”
BumbleBar is able to manufacture 8 million to 10 million products per year, which includes its own BumbleBar product and orders from other food makers, she says. She declines to identify other food companies for which BumbleBar makes food products.
“The food industry is trending toward simpler and cleaner ways to make food,” she says. “The industry wants a high-fiber, high-protein profile, and they know we’re good at doing that.”
The company uses two main ingredients for its bars—sesame seed and flaxseed—and it promotes the bars as organic and ethically sourced, in addition to being gluten free.
With three times as much space as before, and modernized equipment, Ward says BumbleBar can run multiple product lines at once, something the company hadn’t been able to do previously.
