Spokane Airports has awarded Newman Lake-based contractor Wm Winkler Co. a $1.7 million contract for a Flint Road realignment project.
Todd Woodard, spokesman for Spokane Airports, says the project is set to begin in July and is expected to conclude by late October.
The project will include realignment and reconstruction of the section of Flint Road that connects the inbound and outbound legs of Airport Drive, the main access route that loops around and through the airport complex. The work also will involve smoothing and then repaving the section of Flint Road from the Airport Drive outbound leg to the car rental return entrance, where Flint dead-ends.
Also included in the project are new sidewalks, overhead signage, landscaping and improvements to the airport’s cell phone parking waiting lot, located just southwest of inbound Airport Drive.
Woodard says the improvements to the cell phone parking waiting lot also will include the addition of bathrooms.
The project, designed by Nebraska-based HDR Engineering Inc., is to be funded through the airport’s capital budget, including customer facility charge funds.
The Flint Road project is in the same general vicinity as the first phase of a separate project involving the planned construction of a convenience store near the airport’s economy lot.
“This phase of that project only includes earthwork and site preparation, such as utilities and an access road from Airport Drive inbound to Airport Drive inbound,” says Woodard.
