The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department is building a $1.2 million, 7,000-square-foot station in northwest Coeur d’Alene.
The facility, which will be the department’s fourth station, will have room for two fire trucks and will be staffed by seven firefighters, says Cory Trapp, a principal with Longwell+Trapp Architects, which designed the project.
The station will be located at 6564 N. Atlas Road, north of Hanley Avenue.
National Native American Construction Inc., of Coeur d’Alene, is the contractor on the project, which is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 1, Trapp says.
NNAC is an American Indian-owned general contracting company that specializes in military and government construction projects.
The project is being funded largely through developer impact fees, the city’s website says.
The facility, which will have exterior finishes of cement fiber shingles and brick wainscot, will be similar in design to the department’s Station No. 3, which Longwell+Trapp designed about 15 years ago, Trapp says. The new station, however, will be smaller by about 1,000 square feet than Station No. 3, which is located at 1500 N. 15th.
More recently, Longwell+Trapp designed the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department headquarters building, which is located at 300 E. Foster, next to Station No. 1.
The firm also designed the original Station No. 2 facility, as well as a remodel and expansion of that building in 2007, which involved adding a five-story fire training tower.
