The City of Coeur d’Alene has launched a $1.9 million remodel project of its City Hall building, at 710 E. Mullan, at the east end of the city’s central business district.
The intent of the project is to prolong the life of the City Hall building in part by updating the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system, and adding other energy-efficient improvements to the building’s infrastructure, says Cory Trapp, of Longwell+Trapp Architecture PLLC, the Hayden firm designing the project.
The remodel project also will enhance the building security and improve access in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Trapp says.
Ginno Construction Co., of Coeur d’Alene, is the general contractor/construction manager on the project.
The two-story City Hall building was constructed in 1978.
“It hasn’t had a major remodel since it was built,” Trapp says. “It needed to be refreshed.”
The project is scheduled to be completed in November, he says.
The HVAC units will be replaced with modern equipment, and conventional lighting fixtures will be replaced with more energy-efficient LED fixtures.
Security and safety improvements will include a new fire alarm system, modern wiring, and an access-control system with cameras.
The Parks and Recreation Department will be remodeled, and some employee stations will be relocated to accommodate a new customer service center.
Renovations also will include a new main entrance, an ADA-compliant elevator, and restroom improvements.
On the outside of City Hall, all doors will be replaced, and windows will be replaced on the west side of the building. Much of the wood siding will be replaced, and the exterior of the building will be repainted.
