Portland-based textile manufacturer Pendleton Woolen Mills says it has reached an agreement to occupy a 3,150-square-foot space on the second floor at River Park Square Mall and hopes to open a retail outlet there on Nov. 1.
“We’re really excited about it,” says Pendleton spokeswoman Linda Parker. “We know we have dedicated customers in Spokane based on our online and catalog sales. We feel that Spokane is going to be a great fit for Pendleton.”
Bryn West, general manager of the downtown mall at 808 W. Main, declines to comment until the final lease has been signed. West would only say that River Park Square and Pendleton have reached a verbal agreement.
Pendleton opened a retail outlet in downtown Seattle near the end of 2016, and it opened its new flagship store in downtown Portland on Aug. 24, Parker says.
A Spokane retail outlet would give Pendleton a total of six in the state of Washington, with the others being in Burlington, Centralia, North Bend, and Washougal, Parker says.
Pendleton is known for its blankets and wool clothing for men and women. The company also manufactures bags and accessories as well as furniture and other home products.
Parker says 85 percent of the fabric Pendleton manufactures is made at its mill in Washougal, which was built in 1912. Pendleton was founded in 1863.
“We’re going to have more than 3,000 square feet of selling space, which means we’ll be able to have a substantial amount of real estate to be able to display our products,” Parker says of the River Park Square site
