Post Falls-based women’s clothing and accessories retailer NanaMacs Boutique has ranked high on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private U.S. companies in 2017.
New York-based Inc. magazine, which compiles the annual list, measured company’s revenue growth from 2013 to 2016. With 1,215 percent growth during the three-year period, NanaMacs ranks 362nd overall, 21st in the retail sector, and third in Idaho.
Founded in 2013 by Susan and Jeremy Shute, NanaMacs began as an online retailer and has grown to include a storefront at 2018 N. Main, in Coeur d’Alene’s Riverstone neighborhood, and a 22,000-square-foot warehouse along west Seltice Way, in Stateline.
The business sells women’s clothing and accessories, some of which are manufactured locally, although most come from the Los Angeles fashion district and international manufacturers.
Jeremy Shute says NanaMacs currently employs about 20 full-time shippers, models, photographers, and customer-service representatives, and is looking to hire more before the holiday shopping season.
He says NanaMacs sales so far this year are up 289 percent over the same period last year.
“Our month-to-month volume for the past three months has exceeded that of the last quarter of 2016,” he says. “We’re very excited and anticipating more growth leading into the holiday season.”
Shute says the company is hoping to see up to 450 percent growth for 2017.
“The majority of our sales are online, and we ship anywhere from 500 to 800 orders daily,” he says.
Shute says the company saw sales grow exponentially after it began to showcase its products through daily live feeds on Facebook and Instagram, with models taking turns to display clothing and answer questions submitted by viewers.
“Sometimes photos don’t do enough,” says Shute. “People enjoy being able to see models wearing the clothing so they can see how it’s meant to be worn, and how it fits various body types.”
He adds, “We’re one of the first boutiques to be doing live feeds on a daily basis, and it’s had a huge impact. That interaction has really deepened our connection with customers.”
NanaMacs is named for Susan Shute’s grandparents, her deceased grandmother “Nana” McCarthy, whose fashion-forward lifestyle served as an inspiration, and her grandfather Walter “Mac” McCarthy, who will turn 102 in January.
“For us, this achievement has put into perspective just how much we’ve grown,” says Shute. “It’s also been wonderful to show Susie’s grandfather the results of our hard work and honor both him and Nana in that way.”
Looking ahead, Shute says the company doesn’t have any further expansion plans just yet.
“We just moved into this larger warehouse space over the summer, and we’re still in a growth pattern,” he says. “It’s hard to anticipate just how much more we’ll grow. For now, we’re focused on keeping up with current demand.”
