Spokane-based Stoneway Electric Supply Inc. has acquired a Seattle-area company, enabling Stoneway to expand its already substantial presence in the Puget Sound region.
Stoneway President Jeff Corrick says it bought H.D. Campbell Co., which is based in Kent, Wash. Corrick declines to disclose the terms of the transaction, which was completed Aug. 31.
Headquartered at 402 N. Perry, in east central Spokane, Stoneway is a distributor of electrical, electronic, automation, and voice data communication products.
The company is a subsidiary of Illinois-based Crescent Electric Supply Inc., the eighth largest electrical distribution company in the U.S.
“The biggest piece for us is that the acquisition gives us an even stronger presence in the Seattle area,” Corrick says. “Ninety percent of H.D. Campbell’s customers … we didn’t have relationships with. They have a very robust VMI (vendor-managed inventory) that their customers very much like and appreciate, and we’re interested in keeping that going.”
Founded in 1950, H.D. Campbell had five employees that were transferred to Stoneway’s existing Kent location three miles away from where H.D. Campbell previously operated, Corrick says.
“With this acquisition, we take a significant strategic step by adding additional expertise to our team and securing new customers, business, and product lines,” he says.
Adds Corrick, “At the same time, we will continue the momentum of growing Stoneway’s overall market share in the Pacific Northwest.”
In addition to Kent, Stoneway’s other Puget Sound branches are located in Arlington, Everett, Lynnwood, South Seattle, Tacoma, and Totem Lake.
East of the Cascades, Stoneway operates in Wenatchee, Yakima, Richland, Moses Lake, Walla Walla, Pullman, Spokane, Sandpoint, and Coeur d’Alene. Corrick says the company has a total of 280 workers.
