Regional supermarket chain Super 1 Foods is starting a $2.5 million interior and exterior remodel project at its Coeur d’Alene store, says Mark D’Agostino, president of Spokane-based Meridian Construction, the contractor on the project.
The 67,200-square-foot grocery store is located at the northeast corner of U.S. 95 and Kathleen Avenue, in north Coeur d’Alene.
Longtime Hayden businessman Ron McIntire, who founded Manito Super 1 Foods, the chain’s Spokane-based parent company, referred a Journal of Business inquiry about the project to URM Stores Inc., which is managing the project.
Spokane-based URM Stores Inc. is a grocery distribution cooperative with a number of regional grocery chains and stores among its members. A representative there couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.
D’Agostino says the project will include a complete exterior remodel.
“They are putting in an arbor and new columns and supports out front,” he adds.
Mercier Architecture & Planning, of Spokane, designed the project.
D’Agostino says the interior portion of the remodel will consist of five phases of work in the bakery, deli, pharmacy, and meat departments. The project also will involve constructing a mezzanine with a dining area.
The city of Coeur d’Alene issued a building permit for the project earlier this month, and D’Agostino says it will be completed in about six months.
The Super 1 Foods grocery store chain includes 18 stores in Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
