West Star Industries, a Hayden-based maker of commercial stainless steel food-service products and equipment, plans to build a $5.6 million manufacturing plant in Hayden, a building permit application on file with the North Idaho city shows.
Michelle Focke, West Star’s president, says plans for the project could change, and she declines to comment further. West Star affiliate 2GS LLC had obtained a building permit from the city of Hayden, however, in mid-August for a 58,000-square-foot facility on currently vacant land at 2160 W. Miles, near the southern tip of the Coeur d’Alene Airport.
Newman Lake-based Stevens Construction LLC is listed as the general contractor on the project, and Coeur d’Alene-based Air Tech Mechanical Co. is the mechanical contractor.
No architect or engineer was specified in the building permit application.
West Star, which has its corporate office in Hayden, operates a 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Stockton, Calif.
The company is a women-owned, family-run manufacturer with 50 years of fabricating experience, West Star’s website says.
Its products include standard and custom stainless-steel refrigeration, sinks, tables, exhaust hoods, dish tables, shelving, ice bins, and cabinets for restaurants, cafeterias, and other food-handling facilities.
In addition to the airport, businesses near the project site include Aerostar Aircraft Corp., Kootenai Electric Cooperative, LA Aluminum Casting Co., and Transtector Systems Inc.
