A three-story, nine-unit apartment complex is planned at 1021 W. Ninth, in the historic Cliff Cannon neighborhood on Spokane’s South Hill, according to building permit application information on file with the city of Spokane.
The $1 million project, to be called The Nines on 9th, has yet to go through the bidding process. Wolfe Architectural Group PS, of Spokane, is designing the project.
Lauren Egbert, Wolfe Architectural Group’s architectural associate for the project, says the project site, just north of Huckleberry’s Natural Market, is currently occupied by three vacant homes that will be demolished before construction can begin.
“Ideally, if we have all our permitting work completed and a contractor selected, we’d be looking at construction starting in the spring,” Egbert says. “We’re expecting the project to reach completion sometime in late fall or early winter of 2018.”
City records show the project owner as 926 Monroe LLC, of Issaquah, Wash. Egbert, however, says the architectural firm has a different name, The Nines LLC, for the property developer and that the parties involved are based in Spokane. She declines to disclose the individuals involved.
She says project plans include building an 11,000-square-foot apartment complex, consisting of nine two-bedroom living units, each with about 1,200 square feet of living space.
The project also will involve constructing seven detached garage units and related site improvements.
Egbert adds that each apartment unit will include a washer and dryer, storage space, walk-in closets, a kitchen pantry, and a gas furnace.
“These will be high-end units made with quality materials,” she says. “The project is being built in a historic neighborhood, so we’re including that aspect in our design plans.”
