HMA acquires smaller Spokane CPA practice

Transaction gives firm total of 15 employees

February 1, 2018
LeAnn Bjerken

HMA CPA PS, a Spokane-based firm specializing in tax and accounting services, has acquired smaller Spokane accounting firm Dorendorf & Associates PS.

Marc Dorendorf, former president and owner of Dorendorf & Associates, says he and his business partner, Tammie Pecka, joined HMA following the transaction, which was completed in November.

That addition brought the firm’s total staff to 15.

“As a small firm with few staff, we were looking to join with a firm that shared our philosophy and could help us to better serve our current clients,” Dorendorf says. “Merging with HMA has provided us with that opportunity.”

Founded in 1983, HMA CPA has one office, which occupies 4,500 square feet on the fourth floor of the Cutter Building, at 510 W. Riverside downtown.

HMA President Kevin Sell says, “Our firm has been here for over 30 years now, specializing in tax and accounting for owner managed businesses.”

He adds, “HMA and Dorendorf share a similar focus on tax and accounting services, and the merger has proved to be a good strategic match for both our firms and the clients we serve.”

In addition to Sell, HMA CPA’s shareholders group is comprised of Laura Hays, Mike Whitmore, and Kristi Bushnell.

Sell declines to disclose the terms of the transaction.
