Spokane-based Cobra BEC Inc. and Mississauga, Ontario-based Flynn Group of Cos. plan to merge and operate under the Flynn Group name, says Travis Dix, chief operations officer of Cobra.
The two building-envelope contracting companies expect to finalize the merger in May, Dix says. The two companies inked a letter of intent to combine operations in February.
“For us, (Flynn) was a perfect culture fit, and it created a lot of opportunities for our people and for our business to grow,” he says.
Travis Dix and his brother, Cobra BEC company President Eric Dix, will become shareholders in Flynn Group and maintain leadership functions in the company.
Dix declined to disclose the terms of the merger.
Cobra BEC, located at 4414 S. Dowdy Road, has more than 250 employees, with offices in Boise, Dallas, Portland, Seattle, and Spokane, says Dix. Flynn Group currently has 35 offices in Canada and the U.S. and employs more than 5,500 people.
Established in 1983, Cobra BEC was founded by brothers Pete and Pat Dix, the company’s website says. The company opened its Seattle-area branch in 2002, its Dallas location in 2012, its Boise branch in 2013, and its Portland branch last year.
The brothers are former co-owners of Spokane heavy construction company Dix Corp., which they sold to Pat Dix’s sons Kevin and Michael Dix, in 2010.
Flynn Group of Cos. was founded in 1978. Currently, its closest shop is in Kelowna, British Columbia, about 230 miles northwest of Spokane.
