Kalispel Development Co., the real estate arm of the Kalispel Tribal Economic Authority, has three new projects under construction at Northern Quest Resort Casino worth a total of more than $3 million.
Those projects—a renovation of the hotel’s top floor, a makeover at the Impulse night club, and the addition of grandstand seating at its outdoor concert venue—are in addition to the $27 million resort expansion and RV park development well underway at the West Plains casino-resort complex.
Brandon Haugen, general manager of Kalispel Development, says the $1 million-plus hotel project involves updates to the 25 guest rooms on the top floor of the 10-story hotel. Work on the rooms started earlier this year and is expected to be completed early this summer.
Haugen says it’s considered standard at resorts like Northern Quest to update guest rooms every seven to 10 years.
“We’re at that point where we want to freshen it up,” he says
Bouten Construction Co., of Spokane, is the contractor on that project, and Bremerton, Wash.-based design firm Rice Fergus Miller Inc. designed the improvements.
Northern Quest likely will look at updating rooms on the hotel’s other floors in the next couple of years, though a specific timetable for such work hasn’t been set yet, Haugen says.
At the Impulse night club, which is located just off the main gaming floor on the casino’s main level, the $1 million-plus makeover of the 5,000-square-foot bar is expected to be finished around Memorial Day weekend.
Haugen says Impulse is being renovated to become more of a lounge, rather than a night club. The 5,000-square-foot, 165-seat bar will be rebranded, and the new name is expected to be selected in the coming days, he says.
Kalispel Development is acting as its own contractor on the bar renovation, and Rice Fergus Miller designed the improvements.
At Northern Quest’s outdoor concert venue, grandstand seating that can accommodate about 1,000 people is being added at the west end of the venue. That work, estimated to cost just over $1 million, is expected to be completed by June, Haugen says.
The grandstands will increase the capacity of the outdoor venue to more than 5,000 people, Haugen says.
Garco Construction Inc., of Spokane, is the contractor on that project.
The new projects are occurring as Kalispel Development advances on a $20 million, 55,000-square-foot casino expansion and a $7 million RV park development.
First announced in February 2017, the casino expansion will be completed in phases between late May and midsummer.
That expansion will house a large arcade, a dinner-and-a-movie complex, retail stores, and other amenities, Haugen says.
The RV park is being built south of the casino. As previously announced, it will include 70 RV stalls, 18 cottages, and other amenities.
