River City Guitars, at 2910 E. 29th, on the South Hill, is Spokane’s newest vintage guitar shop.
Co-owned and operated by local musicians Bobby Kluss and Joe Chamberlain, the store specializes in the buying and selling of vintage electric, acoustic, and bass guitars.
“We’re both musicians with a passion for vintage and American-made guitars,” says Kluss. “Our idea was to bring the boutique, vintage feel you find in Portland and Seattle shops into a space here in Spokane.”
Kluss says he and Chamberlain are leasing the shop’s 1,000-square-foot building, which is situated between Millers Hardware store and a Thai Bamboo restaurant.
Formerly occupied by a Black Tie Coffee shop, Kluss says the building was remodeled by local contractor Darrin Huff in time for a January opening.
“We’ve technically been open since January, but we only just recently held our grand opening,” he says.
In addition to selling vintage guitars, Kluss says the shop also offers some in-house repair services. It eventually hopes to offer guitar lessons.
“We try to keep things affordable, so there are options for all different price points,” he says. “We also included a seating area, because we want this to be a gathering space for musicians, artists, and people who love guitars.”
