Spokane-based Avista Corp. has five major construction projects valued at about $52.4 million underway or planned to start this year.
As part of Avista’s campus restructuring plan, the company plans to construct a new $12 million parking garage at its corporate headquarters at 1411 E. Mission, says David Vowels, an Avista spokesman.
The five-level, 171,000-square-foot garage will hold 500 parking spaces. Wolfe Architectural Group PS, of Spokane, is the architect, and no contractor has been selected yet, says Vowels.
Parking garage construction will begin upon completion of a new $10.3 million fleet operations center and the demolition of the existing fleet building.
Constructed in 1958, the current fleet building’s bays are too small to perform fleet maintenance on site. Bernardo|Wills Architects PC, of Spokane, is the architect for the fleet building project, and Lydig Construction Inc., of Spokane Valley, is the general contractor.
Construction most likely will wrap up on that project this summer, Vowels says.
Beyond work at its headquarters campus, Avista has other projects within Spokane County in the works.
The company will demolish a 62-year-old service center at 2406 N. Dollar Road, in Spokane Valley, and construct a $22 million new facility there, says Vowels. The new service center will have a total of 88,000 square feet of floor space, making it four times the size of the current facility.
The building is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2019.
ZBA Architecture PS, of Spokane, is the architect, and Murphy Brothers Inc. and Garco Construction Inc., both of Spokane, are the contractors on that project.
In Deer Park, Avista expects to complete construction of a new $6.5 million, 24,000-square-foot service center at 2301 E. Sixth by the end of the year.
Located on a 10-acre lot, the structure will replace the existing 46-year-old Deer Park facility at 200 E. A, in the Deer Park city center. The new facility will accommodate future growth in the Deer Park area, Vowels says. Baker Construction & Development Inc., of Spokane, is the contractor on the project, and ZBA Architecture designed it.
Avista also has leased land at the Spokane International Airport where the company plans to construct a $1.6 million hangar for its corporate aircraft.
The hangar will occupy 8,200 square feet and include flight-staff offices, storage space, and a waiting area.
Vowels says construction of the hangar most likely will be completed later this year. Garco is the design-build contractor on the project.
