Spokane Valley-based Brumback Construction Inc. plans to build a $3.4 million apartment complex to be named Cedar Flats Apartments at 6619 N. Cedar Road in the Five Mile area of North Spokane, says Nick Brumback, company president.
The project, which is in the city of Spokane’s plan-review stage, will consist of 39 living units across four three-story buildings, says Brumback.
Construction is expected to start in August and be completed in about a year, he says.
The buildings will have a total of 35,400 square feet of living space with 15 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom apartments, he says.
The Cedar Flats apartment complex will be managed jointly with Cedar Crossing, a nearby Brumback Construction development that includes apartments, he says.
Brumback says demand is strong for multifamily housing in the Five Mile area.
“This is one of the last pieces of developable land, and there’s just a big market demand for multifamily in Five Mile. We’re consistently 100 percent full at Cedar Crossing apartments,” he says.
Separately, Brumback plans to develop a two-story, 8,000-square-foot office building at the northwest corner of Five Mile and Austin roads, just north of the Five Mile Shopping Center, he says.
The project is in the design phase, and Brumback hopes to break ground on the construction site before the end of the year. He declines to disclose a cost estimate.
Brumback Construction is the contractor for both projects, and Paul Matthews Architects PLLC, of Rathdrum, designed them.
The mixed-use Cedar Crossing complex, developed in 2013 on a 4-acre parcel at 6511 N. Cedar, includes four single-story commercial buildings totaling 22,400 square feet of floor space and a 36-unit apartment complex consisting of 18 townhouse-style units and 18 conventional units in four three-story buildings.
Prior to Cedar Crossing, Tidyman’s LLC had operated a supermarket on the site for a number of years. The company closed that store in 2004 due to structural damage and razed the building later that year.
