Gonzaga University is building a new facility for its rowing teams at Silver Lake, near the town of Medical Lake.
Valued at $888,208, the 11,232-square-foot facility will include locker rooms and storage, according to building permits issued for the project.
Garco Construction Inc. is the contractor for the facility, which is being built at 11410 S. Silver Lake Road. Andrea Frye, marketing business development director at Garco, says the facility will be completed in two phases. The first phase, which is currently, will include construction of the building shell, boat storage, docks, utilities, and a parking area. The second phase will involve building locker rooms, she says.
Frye says construction started at the end of October, and the project is expected to be completed in March. Design and architecture work were done in partnership between Gonzaga and Garco’s in-house designers, she says.
The current boathouse, which the university has been renting, is located on the south bank of the Spokane River, west of the Millwood neighborhood.
Rob Kavon, associate athletic director for facility and event operations for Gonzaga, says the project is being funded through donations from the university’s benefactors.
