Pacific Northwest Tattoo starts in Garland District

~

Pacific Northwest Tattoo Co., a new tattoo parlor, has opened shop at 1002 W. Garland, in Spokane’s Garland District.

Owner Joe Ryd, 43, says he’s lived in Spokane for most of his life, but he’s relatively new to the art of tattooing.

“I’ve always been interested in art, but I didn’t get my first tattoo until I was about 30 years old,” he says. “Eventually I became an artist and started out tattooing for a shop in Spokane Valley for seven years or so, and this year, I decided I was ready to open my own place.”

Ryd says his shop on Garland is a small, 600-square-foot space with just enough room for himself and one other artist.

“I’m looking into hiring a third artist once we get things settled a bit,” he says.

He says the space did require some minor remodeling work, which he was able to take care of himself.

“We came into the space in mid-February, but it’s taken about a month or so to get things ready,” he says. “We’re looking forward to being part of this wonderful neighborhood and doing what we can to support other businesses here and give back to the community.”
