Specialty supermarket Natural Grocers, a subsidiary of Lakewood, Colorado-based Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets Inc., is planning a new South Hill store at a former Hastings Entertainment site, at 2512 E. 29th, according to a building permit application filed with the city of Spokane.
A representative of the company declines for now to confirm that location, but says the opening of a new store on the South Hill is tentatively planned for this winter, provided the project encounters no delays.
Permit application information shows the grocer plans to renovate the existing 23,100 square feet of commercial space to include about 10,600 square feet of retail space, 2,500 square feet of office space, and just under 10,000 square feet of storage space.
The application is currently under review with the city of Spokane.
Total construction valuation is listed at $820,000. The project is being designed by Wheat Ridge, Colorado-based Rogue Architecture. JCAA Consulting Engineers, also of Wheat Ridge, is the engineering team for the project.
The application information indicates Natural Grocers is seeking contractor bids for the project.
Natural Grocers currently has two stores in the Inland Northwest, one at 4603 N. Division, on Spokane’s North Side, and one at 222 W. Neider, in Coeur d’Alene.
In total, the health food grocery chain has 155 stores, according to its website. In its third quarter ended June 30, the company reported a net sales increase of 5.3% compared with the year-earlier quarter.
