When you move to Spokane from Fort Worth, Texas it’s only fitting to bring a little taste of home to the saloon you plan to open.
That’s just what Austin Estrada has in mind for his planned Lil’ Sumthin Saloon, a Texas-style bar he plans to open in 600 square feet of space at 301 W. Second, in downtown Spokane. The space most recently served as a photography studio.
He says the bar will have a capacity of about 30 patrons. Lil’ Sumthin will be situated near the Tiny Tiki tavern, located at 307 W. Second.
The saloon will have a wood-finish interior and will be “more retro cowboy in nature than honky tonk,” says Estrada, who moved to Spokane earlier this year with his girlfriend, Kryston Skinner, who was recently hired as Laboratory Spokane’s first non-volunteer director.
Estrada, who was a bartender for more than 10 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, says Lil’ Sumthin will specialize in whiskey-based cocktails. He says at some point, he may explore creating a brunch menu, possibly on at least one weekend day.
He estimates Lil’ Sumthin will be ready for casual openings by the middle of the month, with hours from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Estrada says he’s aiming for a more elaborate soft opening on New Year’s Eve.
